Chief Warrant Officer Alain Grenier was born in Boisbriand in the county of Terrebonne on 29 July 1960. His military career began at the Canadian Forces Recruit School at Saint-Jean d’Iberville and, in March 1980, he was posted to Q battery 5e Régiment d’artillerie légère du Canada in Valcartier.
In October 1980, he was dispatched on his first overseas deployment, to Cyprus with 5e Régiment d’artillerie légère du Canada as part of the United Nations (UN) force. In June 1983, he was promoted to the rank of Master Bombardier and was tasked as a Detachment Commander. In July 1985, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant during Exercise RV 85. On his return, he was transferred to the R22eR school on an English language course. During this year, he was also able to complete his parachute course.
In July 1986, he was transferred to E Battery Para, 2nd Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (RCHA). In July 1988, he was posted to the Royal Canadian Artillery School, in Gagetown, New Brunswick as a student on the Assistant Instructor in Gunnery (AIG) course. He was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer in July 1989. In July 1990, he was posted to the Artillery Battle School in Shilo, Manitoba as the Course Warrant for the Trade Qualification Level 3 course.
He was posted back to the 2nd Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (RCHA) in September 1993 where he assumed various positions. In July 1997, he was promoted Master Warrant Officer and deployed on OP PALLADIUM, ROTO III in ex-Yugoslavia under the aegis of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as the Quartermaster of the Headquarters Company with the 3rd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR). In July 1999, he returned to 5e Régiment d’artillerie légère du Canada as Q Battery Quartermaster. He was then transferred to the 5th Area Support Group (ASG) in July 2000 as the Valcartier Garrison Quartermaster.
In July 2003, he was transferred to the Department of Applied Sciences of the Royal Military College of Kingston where he completed the Technical Services Program (TSP), better known as the Master Gunner (MGnr) course. Transferred to Ottawa in July 2004, he was posted in as the Army Ballistics Technician where responsible for the production and maintenance of security gauges across the country. In July 2005 he was transferred to the Centre of Ammunition Tests and Experimentation in Valcartier and assigned the duties of Test Coordinator.
In July 2007, he once again returned to the 5e Régiment d’artillerie légère du Canada as the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM).
Chief Warrant Officer Attic is married to Maryse Le Bel and they have two children: Marc and Marie-Pierre.
