Chief Warrant Officer T.K. Gilks, MMM, CD

CWO GilksChief Warrant Officer Gilks enrolled in the Canadian Forces on 26 May 1977 in Doaktown, New Brunswick. Following his initial basic and artillery training, Chief Warrant Officer Gilks was posted to W Battery of The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School.

Between 1982 and 2007, Chief Warrant Officer Gilks served the Guns of The Royal Canadian Horse Artillery to include postings with 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in Lahr, Germany (1982-1985), 2nd Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in Petawawa, Ontario (1988-1992) and finally with 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in Shilo, Manitoba (2001-2003).

When not with The Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, his Regimental time was divided by postings to the Canadian Forces Recruiting Center in Saint John, New Brunswick, The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, New Brunswick, 400 Tactical Helicopter Squadron, and Base Ops and Training at Canadian Forces Base Borden, Ontario. In 1987 after becoming an Assistant Instructor-in-Gunnery, he instructed at the Artillery School until 1988. Chief Warrant Officer Gilks attended second language training from 1999 to 2000. His Regimental senior appointments include Battery Sergeant Major of A Battery and Headquarters Battery 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery at Canadian Forces Base Shilo from 2001, Battery Sergeant Major Tactics and 67 Battery, The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School from 2003 and as well appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School for five months in 2005. Chief Warrant Officer Gilks also served in Bosnia as part of the British Battle Group under the NATO Implementation Force (IFOR) as a Sector Sergeant Major from September 2005 until May 2006.

Chief Warrant Officer Gilks was promoted to his present rank on 2 July 2007. In July 2007 he was posted to Land Forces Doctrine and Training Systems Headquarters in Kingston, Ontario, where he was employed in Directorate of Army Training as the Artillery Non Commissioned Member desk officer. In June 2008 Chief Warrant Officer Gilks was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major, 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery at Canadian Forces Base Shilo Manitoba.

Chief Warrant Officer Gilks is an avid runner and a huge hockey fan. He is happily married to Carmen Gilks and has two sons, Alex and Ryan.
