Chief Warrant Officer D.T. Moyer, CD

CWO MoyerChief Warrant Officer (CWO) Moyer was born in Southern Ontario in 1961. He enrolled in the Canadian Forces as a Field Artilleryman in 1982. After completing Basic Training at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Cornwallis NS and trades training at CFB Shilo MB he was posted on his first regimental tour with the 1st Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in Lahr Germany. Subsequent regimental tours included 3 RCHA, The Royal Canadian School of Artillery, The RCA Battle School, and 2 RCHA.

Throughout his career, he has held leadership appointments ranging from an M109 Detachment Commander to Battery Sergeant Major (E Battery and Headquarters and Services Battery) in the 2nd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. As an Assistant Instructor in Gunnery, he spent five years training Artillery Officers at the basic and advanced levels.

CWO Moyer has been involved in several overseas deployments including OP TORRENT, the Disaster Assistance Response Team’s deployment to Turkey after the 1999 earthquakes. As well, in 2001 he was deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina as the Fire Support Coordination Center Warrant Officer. In 2005, he served as the Camp Sergeant Major at Camp Julien in Kabul and at Kandahar Airfield Afghanistan.

CWO Moyer’s military education includes: the Assistant Instructor in Gunnery Course, Combat Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, and Chiefs Qualification Course. He has completed the Continuous French Course and is bilingual. His civilian education includes the Basic Emergency Preparedness Course, Emergency Operations Centre Manager Course, and the Emergency On-Scene Management Course, all at the Canadian Emergency Preparedness College at Arnprior, Ontario.

CWO Moyer is a graduate of the year long United States Army Sergeants Major Course Class 58 and remained at the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy as a Faculty Advisor for Class 59.

He is married to Beth (nee Aitchison) Moyer and has two grown children. His hobbies include whitewater canoeing, camping, downhill and backcountry skiing, and photography.
