Col FleuryColonel Jean-Guy Fleury received an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Psychology from Sherbrooke University in May 1975 and a Master's Degree in Strategic Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada in May 1993.

He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in August 1972 under the Regular Officer Training Plan and was commissioned on 1 May 1975. Upon commissioning he was posted to the 5 Régiment d'artillerie légère du Canada (5 RALC) until the summer of 1978.

In August 1982, Captain Fleury was promoted to the rank of Major and posted to National Defence Headquarters with Director General Reserves and Cadets, where he was responsible for the Summer Youth Employment Programme and the Communications Reserve. Later, Major Fleury was appointed as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Reserves where he remained until June 1984.

On 29 June 1984, Major Fleury took command of Q Battery of 5 RALC. During his tour as Battery Commander, Major Fleury served with Allied Mobile Force (Land) in Norway.

In the summer of 1986 Major Fleury departed Canada for Brussels where he attended the Belgian Command and Staff College at the Institut Royal Supérieur de Défense. Upon completion of this course he was posted to the 5 Régiment d'artillerie légère du Canada as Deputy Commanding Officer. In that capacity he served with 5 RALC in Cyprus in the fall of 1987.

On promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in June 1989, he was transferred to the Defence Minister's Office where he served as the Minister's Staff Officer until July 1991. That summer, Lieutenant Colonel Fleury was posted to the Royal Military College of Canada. In May 1993, Lieutenant Colonel Fleury obtained his Master's Degree in Strategic Studies with a specialisation in Low Intensity Conflicts.

In June 1993, Lieutenant Colonel Fleury took command of the 5 Régiment d'artillerie Légère du Canada. In the summer of 1995, he was transferred to the National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa as Group Co-ordinator for the Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff. On promotion to Colonel, in March 1996, he was seconded to the Department of External Affairs and posted to the Canadian Embassy in Haiti. In February 1997, he took command of the Canadian Contingent in Haiti. On return to Canada he assumed the functions of Director of NDHQ Secretariat under the Vice-Chief of Defence Staff. In May 2000, Colonel Fleury was transferred to Director General Strategic Planning where he became the Director Strategic Planning Coordination. On completion of the National Security Studies Course (NSSC) in June 2002 , Col Fleury became Senior Principal in Chief Review Services. Col Fleury is currently on Advanced Training.
