Commanding Officer 3rd Field Artillery Regiment

Lieutenant Colonel Shawn McPherson was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on 14 January 1972. He is the eldest of two children of Walter & Sharon (nee Kilpatrick) McPherson. He graduated from Kennebecasis High School French Immersion Program in 1990. He attended the University of New Brunswick and received a Bachelors of Business Administration Degree and a Diploma in Operations Research in 1999 and 2000.

Lieutenant Colonel McPherson enrolled in 3rd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery (The Loyal Company) on 27 February 1989, as a Private Recruit. After completing his QL3 and all of his QL4 courses he was appointed an Officer-Cadet under the Reserve Entry Scheme on 03 March 1991. He was commissioned on 1 September 1991 as a 2nd Lieutenant and was employed as a Troop Leader and as a course officer for the unit GMT Course. Following his promotion to Lieutenant on 4 August 1992, he served as a Gun Position Officer and course officer for numerous unit and area run courses. In 1996 he completed the Regular Force Forward Observation Officer course at the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School. He was promoted to Captain on 14 August 1996 and served in the Regiment in numerous positions including:

  • Forward Observation Officer 115 Battery and the Field Battery, 1996-2001
  • Battery Captain, 115 Battery, 1998
  • Adjutant, Regimental Headquarters, 1999-2001
  • Acting Battery Commander of 115 Battery, 2001-2004
  • Acting Battery Commander of the Field Battery, 2001-2004

On 10 October 2002 he commanded the Salute Troop for the Jubilee visit to Fredericton of the Regiment’s Captain General, Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II .

He was promoted to Major on 30 September 2004 and has since commanded the following:

  • 115 Battery, 2004-2005 and again in 2007-2008
  • Headquarters and Services Battery, 2005-2006
  • Field Battery 2004-2005 and again in 2007-2008

Lieutenant Colonel McPherson completed the Army Operation Course (AOC) in Jul 2006 and earned a Distinguished Pass. Lieutenant Colonel McPherson has acted as a Combat Team Commander, Battery Commander, and Arty SME for numerous Brigade exercises most recently during Exercise Maritime Raider (conducted in Fort Pickett Virginia) in March 2008.

In Apr 1999, Lieutenant Colonel McPherson joined Xerox Canada as one of the first Business Analysts for the Xerox North American Insides Sales Group. In this position he helped to develop the reporting systems and tools that are still used today. He joined StorageTek in June 2003 as the Senior Business Analyst for their new Insides Sales Group and worked remotely from home travelling to Denver Colorado on a quarterly basis. This position was a huge challenge for two reasons. The first challenge was to determine reporting requirements for a new business from both a marketing perspective and a field sales force perspective. The second challenge was to develop reporting to meet the reporting requirements of the stakeholders using existing field reporting systems and reporting tools. He left StorageTek, one year after it merged with SunMicro Systems, to seek new challenges and opportunities for growth.

Lieutenant Colonel McPherson is currently employed as a Business Intelligence Analyst with The Atlantic Lottery Corporation in Moncton, NB, working on a major Business Intelligence Project.

Lieutenant Colonel McPherson currently resides in Hampton, NB. He has two children, Haley (7) ,and Wil (5) . He is married to Celeste Reid-McPherson. of St Stephen NB.
