Quick Firing 18-Pounder Field Gun
Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, Alberta

18-Pounder Field Gun This British-designed Howitzer was an improvement from the 1913 model 18-pounder. Produced in 1937, it was available at the start of the Second Wrld War. The major innovation in this developmental period was the change from horse drawn to mechanical transportation. The axle had been modified to accept rubber tires rather than wooden wheels and a braking system was installed.

18-Pounder Field GunrThis particular gun was used by the Royal Artillery and presented to the Canadian Army in 1945. It was mounted at this site in August 1981 by One Troop, 9 Para Squadron during Exercise Pond Jump West III.
