12-Pounder Field Gun
First produced by Armstrong's Elswick Ordnace Company in England in 1881, the rifled breech loading (RBL) twelve pounder was taken into general use by the Royal Artillery in 1894. It was introduced into Canadian service in 1896 and by 1897 there were six Canadian batteries with the gun. The 12 pounder remained in service until 1914 when the eighteen pounder was adopted.





12-Pounder Field GunThe 12 pounder was used by "C", "D" and "E" Batteries during the South African War from 1899 until 1902 and was employed in the battles at:
Relief of Mafeking;
Leliefontein; and
Fabers Put

This gun is located in the Longue Pointe Museum, Canadian Forces Base Montréal.
