M114 155mm Howitzer
Beechwood Cemetary
Ottawa, Ontario

Beechwood CemetaryThe Beechwood Cemetary provides an excellent backdrop for four howitzers located around the perimeter of their veterans' memorial plot. Two M114 155mm howitzers and two 105mm L5 howitzers appear in excellent condition and each one is provided with an explanatory plaque.

M114 HowitzerThe 155mm medium gun was developed by the Armament Research and Development establishment in the late 1930's to meet a requirement for a five-inch gun to fire a projectile weighing 40.824 Kg (90 Lb) to a maximum range of 14,630 M (47,998 Ft). The gun entered production in 1941 and was first used in action in the middle east the following year. It served primarily with front-line units of the British Army until 1978 and was phased out of service in 1980.
