RCA Heritage Council

On the advice of the Colonel Commandant and Artillery Council, the Director of Artillery has authorized the formation of a Heritage Council to serve as a Board of Directors for heritage matters and has appointed a Director of Artillery Heritage to oversee the implementation of the heritage plan.

The RCA Heritage Council is the Board of Directors for the Royal Regiment’s heritage program. The council exercises stewardship over the heritage and history of the RCA and promotes the continued relevance of the RCA in Canadian society. The Council will have the following tasks:

Exercise governance over the RCA Heritage Program;

Oversee the development of heritage plans and activities;

Advise the Colonel Commandant on heritage issues and priorities;

Recommend to the Colonel Commandant potential members for the Heritage Council; and

Promote the Royal Regiment and its heritage campaign both nationally and regionally.

The council will consist of 12 to 20 members, representative of the diverse demography and culture of Canada. While consisting predominantly of distinguished gunners, it will include a variety of other Canadians. It will include a number of Ex Officio members to ensure expert advice to the council.

The Colonel Commandant. The Colonel Commandant is the chair of the RCA Heritage Council. This is in keeping with his historic roles and responsibilities in fostering esprit de corps and preserving artillery heritage.

Director of Artillery Heritage. The Director of RCA Heritage is the principal staff officer for RCA Heritage. He is responsible to the Director of Artillery and responsive to the Chairman of the RCA Heritage Council.
