Enrolling in 1989, Lieutenant-Colonel LaFortune was first posted to the Artillery School where he was employed within W Battery. He has served two regimental tours with 5 RALC in Valcartier, as well as two tours at the School. His extra-regimental tours include 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, Saint John, CTC HQ in Gagetown, and LFDTS HQ, in Kingston. Lieutenant-Colonel LaFortune deployed twice with 3 R22eR, first to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1995 as a Platoon Commander, and then to Afghanistan in 2004 as a Battery Commander.
He is a graduate of the Instructor-in-Gunnery course, the Land Force Command and Staff Course, as well as the Canadian Forces Joint Command and Staff Programme. Lieutenant-Colonel LaFortune holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Maryland and a Master’s degree in Defence Management and Policy from RMC. He is an avid Squash Player. He is married to Dianne, and they have one daughter, Gabrielle. Promoted to his current rank in 2008, he assumes command of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery School.
