Lieutenant Colonel B. Kalogerakis, CD

RCA BadgeLieutenant Colonel Kalogerakis was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1963. He joined the 2nd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery in his home town in 1980 as a Gunner. LCol Kalogerakis served in the ranks for three years attaining the rank of Master-Bombardier and was a qualified Artillery Communicator, Artillery Technician and Driver.

In May of 1984 he was appointed Officer Cadet and was sent to the Combat Training Centre in Gagetown New Brunswick during the summers of 1984 and 1985 to undergo Artillery officer training. He finished first on Artillery Phase 2 and second on Artillery Phase 3. He subsequently served in the Regiment as a Command Post Officer, Gun Position Officer and Battery Captain of 2 Field’s 7 (Field) Battery. In the Fall of 1987 he was sent to West Germany for five weeks to participate in the annual Return of Forces to Germany (REFORGER) NATO exercise as an Artillery Umpire. LCol Kalogerakis qualified as a Forward Observation Officer in 1988 and Field Artillery Battery Commander in 1996. He served as the Regimental Command Post Officer, at the unit and for two summer live fire Artillery concentrations. LCol Kalogerakis transferred to the 7th Toronto Regiment RCA in September 1996 and was appointed Battery Commander of 9 (Field) Battery in December 1996. He oversaw the training of the Battery in preparation for the Army Combat Readiness Evaluation held in September 1997 that saw the unit attain an above average rating by the Regular Force Artillery. In his continuing service with the Regiment, LCol Kalogerakis was also the Battery Commander of 15 (Recruiting and Training Battery), Second in Command of the Regiment, Acting Commanding Officer and again as Commander of 9 Battery.

In civilian life, LCol Kalogerakis is the Director of Zinc and Lead Metal Sales for Xstrata Zinc Canada where he oversees the Department that is responsible for the Marketing and Sales of almost 500,000 metric tonnes of metal worth about $700 million. LCol Kalogerakis has a Bachelor of Science Degree, Specialization in Analytical Chemistry (1987) and a Masters of Business Administration (1995) from Concordia University.
